Discover Elk City, Idaho

Informational historical sign about Elk City in Idaho, with a map showing its location and details about its gold rush history.

Elk City is a unique destination in its own right, being one of the last “end of the road” wilderness locations accessible by automobile in the lower 48.

We are so remote that the local T-shirt reads:

A local t-shirt from Elk City, Idaho. It is a road sign indicating the end of the world in 9 miles and Elk City, Idaho in 12 miles, with a car driving on a winding road surrounded by red rock formations and a forest at sunset.

Four seasons of fun activites

  • Spring starts in March, or April, or even in May...and sometimes it even waits until next year.

Spring is normally quiet and wet. Snow is melting, and it can drizzle for days on end, with highs in the 40s. It can also be 75 and sunny the next day, then snow again the next week.

    Visit during spring for:

    • Steelhead fishing (March)

15 minutes away on the Clearwater River.

    • Turkey hunting (April)

There are turkeys in the area. No hunting on the property

    • Relaxation and a digital detox

    • Mushroom picking

Pick your favorite season and visit us in Elk City for an incredible and relaxing break

  • Summer is peak time in Elk City. The sun rises about 5:00 and it stays light until about 10:00 p.m. We’ve got fire rings for late night s’mores, and millions of stars to see once that fire burns out.

Summer normally starts around mid-June and lasts until early September. The weather is normally dry and can be hot (up to 100 F!). Visit during summer for:

    • Salmon fishing (June)

    • Trout fishing

    • Floating the Clearwater River

    • Hiking or ATV riding

    • Mountain Biking

    • Gold Prospecting

Elk City is normally crowded (for here) during summers; it’s still got PLENTY of room and trails to explore. If you need suggestions, just ask!

  • Fall in Elk City normally centers around hunting season, running from early September (Archery) to November (Muzzleloader).

Elk City is in Game Unit #15. The elk and deer are making a comeback here

  • We get over 4 feet of snow on the ground in a normal winter, giving you plenty of powder for

    • Snowmobiling

    • Snowshoeing

    • Cross-country skiing

    • Wolf Hunting
